Our Verdict
Something different when it comes to wooden playhouses. The Hazel Castle is ideal if you're looking for a simple rustic feature for the garden with the added benefit of keeping young children entertained. It's something of a novelty and relatively hardwearing and although it won't be everyone's cup of tea, if it's the type of playhouse you're looking for you won't go far wrong.
The Castle is visually attractive and will be appealing to smaller children. You won't have any difficulties with assembly as there are only four sections secured by plastic ties and its also readily portable so it can be moved around from location to location to prevent wear and tear to lawns - and keep it in (or out of) the sunshine. There's no need to apply preservative or any decorative finishes and the playhouse works well for what it is. The only thing missing is a simple closing door to keep out unwanted intruders of a furry nature. Be aware however that although the woven hazel branches used in the construction are natural and durable and should last well they will fade as time passes and take on a naturally aged appearance. Depending on your point of view this will either result in a lovely feature of considerable character or a weathered and worn playhouse. It's all a matter of personal preference.
True there's no roof but you're unlikely to be using the Hazel Castle outside on a rainy day anyway. But if you're attracted to the style and do want some overhead protection have a look at the Hazel Wooden Playhouse. It's finished in the same material but has more cover than the Hazel Castle - it'll also set you back a little more.
Prices and availability for the Hazel Castle can vary quite widely so be sure to check out our price guide above. Some sellers may apply delivery charges to so do be sure to keep an eye on these as well.
While the Hazel Castle won't be to everyone's taste it's difficult to fault it for what it is. We've given it 3.5 stars to take account of the playhouse's durability, portability, ease of construction and overall simplicity while reflecting the lack of overhead cover or shade and a closing door - and the fact that taking everything into account it's probably a little on the pricey side.
